NIGERIAN BOXERS WILL WIN MEDALS AT 2012 LONDON OLYMPICS, SAID OKOJI

In a chat with P.M.Sports, the boxing trainer said that Nigerian boxers will give a nice account of themselves at the London Olympics than they did years ago in Beijing.

Head Coach of Paramount Boxing Club, Godwin Okoji, has expressed confidence in Nigerian boxers to win medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games billed to hold 27 July to 12 August   this year.
I am satisfied that Nigerian boxers will perform excellently at the London Olympics than they did in Beijing.

The boxers have improved tremendously after the last Olympics, said Okoji.

The trainer said Nigerian coaches have been exposed to modern method of training, which is common in world boxing.

They added: Gone are the days when Nigerian coaches used crude means in the work of training. The nice news is that most of them have honed their skills over time on how to train boxers by using scientific methods.
The Boxing coaches in the country are doing their best to create themselves. It is apparent that most of these coaches have developed tactically. They are now in tune with the modern method of training, which is the current trend in world boxing, said Okoji .

The coach said Nigerian boxers no longer feel inferior whenever they take on their foreign counterparts since they now adopt the same process of training with them.
Nigerian boxers now think in themselves and do not feel inferior whenever they trade punches with foreign boxers. Their method of training is the same with their counterparts in other countries,'' added the coach.

Okoji said that the current kind of the boxers has raised his hope that Nigeria will win medals in the boxing event at the London Games.

''Our boxers were a bit inferior to the British boxers at the first edition of the Lagos Versus Repton Boys Club, but it was a different ball game when they came to Nigeria for the second edition.

''The way Nigerian boxers stood toe-to-toe against their British counterparts has raised my confidence in them. That is why I don't see any reason the boys won't do the country proud at the Olympics, added Okoji.
